12 Songs Guaranteed to Get You Up In The Morning

Are you currently using an annoying custom ringtone as your alarm? How you get up in the morning is actually really important. In many ways, this determines the tone of the rest of your day. An energising, early start can ramp up productivity while as a calming, relaxing start can put you in a good mood which endures through to the afternoon and night.

I used to start my mornings to the sound of a loud monotonous beeping from the side of my bed. I would groan and press snooze. After a few minutes of tossing and turning, trying to get back into my groove, it would ring again and I would have to force myself up. As usual, by this time I would be late. I would rush to get myself ready for work and make my 8:30 tram.

After switching to a new ringtone, I view mornings as a renewing ritual. I smile and get up straight away, giving me more time to prepare and gather a really positive mental attitude which I carry throughout my day. My job requires lots of customer interaction, so having that really good start really helped me increase not only how much I enjoy myself, but how I come off to others as well.

Annoying custom alarms pre-installed in your phone could be the thing holding you back from having an amazing day. Most people who have not really tried tinkering with their alarm may not know how huge a difference a different wake-up could have. If you’re one of these people, give one of the following songs a try! If you already experiment with different tunes, perhaps you can mix it up and try a few more different sounds. You never know how much the right song can improve your life until you find it!

For many, something in between very loud and soft/calming work well as alarm tones. I find that having an energising, uplifting song helps get you up without adding stress. Try out some of the following:

1. Imagine Dragons – Radioactive

First off, everybody loves Imagine Dragons. Secondly, “I’m waking up, I feel it in my bones. Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age, to the new age.” If this doesn’t get you up, I don’t know what will.

2. Prodigy – Stand Up

Many would recognise this tune from the movie Kickass. As a big fan of Prodigy, I quite enjoyed the song even before the movie (so hipsta, I know) as it has a very catchy tune while keeping a very cheery tone. A smooth, relaxing trumpet beat to get you up. Why not?

3. Abba – Mamma Mia

An old song, but a good one! I like to pretend that they are singing about how much they miss being awake.  Uplifting and catchy, you’ll be singing “Mamma Mia!” all day. Great for you, but maybe not so great for people you work with.

4. OutKast – Hey Ya

This song was my alarm tone throughout the late 2000s. This classic hit is very upbeat and will get you jamming out of bed.

5. Avicii – Wake Me Up

[Spoiler Alert!] Alright, so “Wake me up” isn’t really about literally waking up. But close enough. It’s a super catchy beat, great for waking up whistling the tune. I’m sure it’s not just me.

For deep sleepers like myself, I need something which is equally loud and obnoxious as it is pleasant. Techno, metal, and hardcore electric are really interesting genres which I feel like many don’t give much of a chance to. Here are some of the top loud songs which get me up in the morning:

6. Basshunter – Every Morning

As a huge fan of Basshunter, this could not be left out. Uplifting, energising, with an awesome beat.

7. Dethklok – Awaken

Awaken is another great adrenaline injection into your morning. Wake up with awesome guitar rifts and some insane strumming.

Cheery Songs

For those who sleep lightly or just want to wake up slowly during the lazy weekends a soft melody to rouse but not annoy could wake you up but not overstimulate your ear-drums.

8. Electric Light Orchestra – Mr Blue Sky

“Sun is shining in the sky, there ain’t a cloud in sight. It’s stopped raining, everybody’s in the play- and don’t you know, it’s a beautiful new day, hey.” The lyrics speak for themselves. Wake up with your foot a-tapping.

9. Groundhog Day – I Got You, Babe

Make everyday groundhog day! Well… okay so that’s not the best wish, but this iconic song will remind you everyday to be the best person you can be. Anything can happen when you’re having fun.

10. Banana Pancakes – Jack Johnson

Sometimes, you don’t need to wake up straight away. A calm, relaxing song like Banana Pancakes can get you up without requiring you to turn off the alarm straight off. “Do we really need to pay attention to the alarm? Wake up slow, mmm mm, wake up slow.”

11. Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles

If you are a fan of the Beatles, what do you wake up to? “Here Comes the Sun”, of course.

12. Africa – Toto

This old classic is also a really good tune to get up to. It’s cheery, calm, and tells of making the most of every moment. C’mon. Don’t lose daylight here!
